Wildlife Corridors
Connecting Habitats
At Neotropic Foundation, we recognize that wildlife needs space to thrive. Yet, deforestation and human expansion have fragmented critical habitats, isolating animal populations and threatening biodiversity. That’s why our Wildlife Corridor initiative is dedicated to reconnecting forests, allowing species to migrate safely, find food, and maintain healthy populations.
Restoring Nature’s Pathways
Wildlife corridors serve as natural bridges between forests, enabling species like jaguars, monkeys, and birds to move freely between habitats. Without these vital connections, animals are at greater risk of human-wildlife conflict, inbreeding, and habitat loss. By restoring native forests in key areas, we are creating safe passageways that help species flourish.
Protecting Endangered Species
Costa Rica is home to incredible biodiversity, but many species are struggling due to habitat fragmentation. Large mammals like jaguars and tapirs require vast territories to hunt and breed. When their habitats are divided, survival becomes a challenge. Our efforts to plant native trees and restore degraded land help create continuous forest cover, ensuring the survival of these magnificent creatures.
Preventing Human-Wildlife Conflicts
As forests shrink, animals are forced to venture into farms and towns in search of food, leading to conflicts with humans. By reconnecting fragmented forests, we reduce these encounters, allowing wildlife to remain in their natural environments while also protecting local communities and their livelihoods.
Strengthening Ecosystems
Wildlife corridors do more than help animals move—they also restore ecosystems. When forests are connected, they support greater biodiversity, enhance soil health, and regulate water cycles. These corridors play a crucial role in combating climate change by increasing carbon sequestration and preventing soil erosion.
